AEDs in New Jersey are subject to Chapter 34 of Laws of 1999. In short, this law requires anyone who owns an AED to:
- Ensure only persons trained and certified to use the AED are allowed to operate the unit,
- Ensure the defibrillator is tested and maintained in accordance with manufacturer guidelines,
- Notify the local EMS agency of the type and location of AED that has been acquired,
- Ensure the prescribing physician that a protocol is in place to meet the above requirements.
